The Nightingale
WORLD PREMIERE of A brand new musical adapted from The Emperor’s
Nightingale
by Hans Christian
Andersen.
22nd May to 5th June
AGF Theatre,Alliance Francaise
Music by Bang Wenfu and Belinda Foo
Money and power cannot
buy happiness; and sometimes life’s greatest treasures come in
a very plain wrapping.
Part of the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 worldwide Celebration, this
Asian themed family-centred musical featured a fusion of both Western
and Asian techniques, carefully interweaving live action, puppetry and
tuneful original songs.
Bringing together all of our experience in creating children’s
and family theatre, we believe that this was one of the best and most
exciting productions we have created so far.
We had a sellout success with this production - with its amazing costumes
and a very strong musical score. We will be re-running the production
in March 2005, due to popular demand!
It's also quite tourable!!

Asian
Children’s Performing Arts Festival 2005
November 7th to 27th 2005
We are very proud to
present to you – the very first The Asian Children’s Performing
Arts Festival! Initially started as a segment of the National Library
Board’s Asian Children’s Festival, this year it starts life
again as a true festival of theatre, music, dance, mime, storytelling
and multi-arts that incorporates Singaporean and regional professional
performing arts groups.
There are over 60
performances for all ages. Some of the best professional groups from
Singapore and the region are working together in a spirit of co-operation
and support to present exciting, challenging and fun performances especially
for children and families.
There’s also an exciting range of Drama and Puppetry workshops
you can attend too!
This year performances
and workshops are ALL conveniently situated in one wonderful venue -
Alliance Française Theatre, right next door to Newton MRT and
Hawker Centre, with good access for coaches and car parking.
Whether you are three, thirteen, thirty three or ninety three, there’s
something here to thrill, tantalise and tempt you, so come along and
join us in this great celebration!
VISION
A true festival of theatre, music, dance, mime, circus, poetry, storytelling,
comedy, and multi-arts that runs in a spirit of mutual support and co-operation,
incorporating Singaporean and regional professional performing arts
groups. And we want to include all local language groups, not just English.
Aims for the Performing Arts Festival:
* To create a positive and top quality total Arts
experience for all participants through a locally centred festival, using
Singapore’s finest talent and the best that the region can offer.
* To enthuse children and parents with a love for the Arts, and an understanding
of their Asian heritage.
* To reach out to the wider community of Singapore. Specifically those
communities who would not normally access Arts activities.
* To help parents and children build foundations for creative thinking,
through stimulating, entertaining and imaginative interactive Arts experiences.
* To promote an understanding of the crucial role the Arts play in the
development of well-rounded, creative and happy individuals. Young people
are the future of Singapore, and an essential part of a child’s
learning experience is exposure to creative stimuli, enabling them to
grow up as well-rounded and creatively aware individuals.
* To establish Singapore as a regional hub for top quality Children’s
and family-centred performing arts.
