Asian Children's
Drama Fiesta 2004!

The fourth year of I Theatre heading up the Asian Children's Festival Drama Fiesta, and it has grown from a single small-scale performance towards a full scale festival. Last year we attracted over 8,000 audience members, with well received shows including The Gruffalo, and Sincerely Ann Frank.
This year’s programme line up is just as exciting, with two well tried and tested favourites, and a wonderful production from Malaysia. We’ve also got a range of exciting workshops linked to our productions.

The Magic Paintbrush
A BRAND NEW production of this hit musical!
Best for ages: 5 – 16 years Duration – 1 hr 10 minutes
Take a well known and well loved Chinese folk tale. Stir together with a highly talented cast; then fill the whole thing with a host of lively, memorable tunes, slapstick comedy, and just a dash of tension and suspense. What do you get? A Musical, Magical journey for all ages!
This fun, interactive play is suitable for the whole family. Marvellous puppets and lively action will enthral the youngest audience members, whilst fun songs and a witty script will entrance grownups and older children.
Tony Lee, a young student from present day Singapore meets a Magical Paintbrush. With an accidental wish, Tony is transported to a Southern Province of China where the story of Ma Liang and his magic paintbrush is recounted.
Meet the tuneful Phoenix who guides and helps Liang with his quest, the comical Flower Rangers, the confused and very blur Chicken. And watch out for the cruel Emperor and his guards. Everyone is taught some valuable lessons about friendship, the dangers of using, or abusing power, and the value of creativity in this magical musical show.
Autographed copies of the colourful story book of the play are available from I Theatre.

The Rainbow Fish

Returning due to popular Demand
Best for ages: 3 – 12 years - Duration 55 minutes
Come and marvel at this classic children’s story brought to life, as we take a magical musical journey under the sea. Meet Starfish, Small Blue, Big Violet and Little Green, and a host of fishy creatures... Listen to lively and fun songs.
Marvel at the sparkling, specially created costumes, cute puppets and a wonderful underwater world created for the whole family.
Based on Marcus Pfister’s award winning storybook, this wonderful musical adaptation has already enjoyed two sell-out runs!
Rainbow Fish is the most beautiful fish in the ocean, but she’s so proud of her beautiful glittery scales that she becomes very vain. Her attitude hurts the feelings of her friends, who one by one turn their back on her. She finds herself isolated and alone, and has to learn the hard way about pride and selfishness. In the process she learns the power of generosity and humility…Can she regain her friends? What must she sacrifice? You must come and watch to find out.
Like Disney, there will be something for everyone – a fun and lively story, with colourful characters for the young ones, and an interactive and funny script for the older ones; and a lesson for all – young or old.

The Jumping Jellybean Investigative Company
- A hit show direct from KL!

Produced by The Jumping JellyBeans
Best for ages: 3 – 12 years Duration – 1 hour.
3rd to 5th December 2004 4 performances only!
3 investigators are trying to solve a crime - “Who stole Cinderella’s shoe?” Inspired by the popular children’s story, the show includes puppetry, clowning, and a great deal of slapstick fun. Parents can enjoy subtle tributes to great modern detective stories such as The Pink Panther and Hawaii-Five-O while revisiting the story of Cinderella with their kids. Listen out for an original song sung by “Reshmonui”. The show begins with a puppet pastiche of the lesser known versions of the classic fairytale, but the plot thickens when the king calls in “Jelly Angels” to solve the mysterious disappearance of the magical footwear. The production made its debut on the Malaysian stage in early November 2003.
