An
production.
Don’t miss your chance to experience I Theatre’s production of ‘perennial masterpiece’ The Glass Menagerie, by Pulitzer Prize winning writer Tennessee Williams.
This powerful classic—featured on Singapore’s O Level Reading List— is considered one of his finest plays. With a strong cast of veteran actors and talented newcomers, I Theatre plans to share its timeless appeal with a new audience.
Originally set in Depression Era America, this contemporary restaging throws a spotlight onto the world of a fractured Eurasian family in post war Singapore.
The story revolves around Tom, a frustrated warehouse labourer who writes poetry on shoebox lids and dreams of travelling the world. He tells the story of life with Amanda, his dramatic mother and Laura, his slightly crippled, yet painfully shy sister.
Amanda tenaciously holds onto the manners and aspirations of her privileged past, encouraging her children to make something of their lives. Meanwhile, Tom routinely blunts his frustrations by getting drunk ‘at the movies’ and Laura spends her days quietly tending to a large collection of glass animals in their rundown apartment.
When Amanda encourages Tom to set Laura up with a suitable young man from the warehouse, the following events force unresolved tensions to the surface, leading to an emotionally charged climax.
PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS
As The Glass Menagerie is featured in the O Level Reading List, the program also includes Intensive Drama Workshops for secondary students. Conducted by experienced trainers, these workshops offer a rich understanding of the plays through interactive exercises and guest appearances by the actors themselves.
Through The Masters Remastered Programme,
I Theatre shares its passion for such classic works with students and theatre lovers,
re-igniting flames of interest in stories with universal relevance and timeless appeal.
