A World Class Family Focused Theatre Company for the Region
Mission:
To raise awareness of the nature and value of family-centred theatre.
I
Theatre
was created to present new and established plays as well as support and
develop new work and practitioners through training and performance opportunities. I Theatre’s
focus is on Theatre for children, youth and family audiences, producing
plays of an international standard for Singapore and the region.
I Theatre Ltd. is a Public Company Limited by Guarantee, Reg, No. 200802928D and is a registered charity with IPC status.
Throughout
all our productions we strive to maintain positive values and a clear
vision.We have
successfully combined mime, physical theatre, puppetry, musical theatre
and more traditional script-based theatre to create energetic, thought
provoking and engaging productions. The
company has developed a strong reputation for producing good quality theatre
for teens, children and family audiences - a niche market that has been
under-used in the past. Vital
to the development of Singapore as a Renaissance City, we are bringing
theatre to the next generation of theatre goers, artists, movers and shakers.
Key
Objectives
• To empower young people and children
• To educate and enlighten parents and other adults
• To continue to raise the standard, scope and reach of our theatre productions
for a family audience
• To enable a regional presence for I Theatre
I
Theatre focuses on theatre for children, youth and family audiences, producing
plays of an international standard. All the work we do has a strong educational
basis, and is firmly rooted in theatre as an ART FORM.We believe people of all ages have a right to appreciate the arts, as
presented to them in an accessible way. Not ‘speaking down’, or merely
entertaining, but informing, expressing and stimulating thought and creativity.
In fact, a well-made children’s play can be as stimulating, challenging
and thought provoking to an adult as to a child.
Our core practitioners have a very clear vision of what the Arts for young people means, and with more than twenty years of theatrical experience and working with youth in British and Singaporean theatre, Brian and colleague Mervyn Goh founded both Imaginarts and I Theatre, and Brian has directed and written most of I Theatre's shows.
Key members of I Theatre also include skilled performers - musicians, dancers and actors - as well as talented set/costume designers, writers, puppet makers and craftsmen.
